This decision aligns with the European Commission\u2019s extension of the Temporary Protection Directive. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Displaced persons from Ukraine who already have temporary protection in Bulgaria must complete their re-registration and renewal by April 30, 2025.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Where to Register and Re-register for Temporary Protection?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At police stations across the country \u2013 Initial registration and issuance of temporary protection cards, as well as re-registration for those already under protection in Bulgaria who wish to renew their status and cards. Member states were required to implement this extension according to their national laws. Bulgaria was the last EU country to finalize this decision.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Following the Council of Ministers&#8217; decision, approximately 80,000 people under temporary protection must now renew their registration cards. As of late 2024, the Ukrainian Embassy in Bulgaria reported that over 14,000 of them were employed and paying taxes in the country.   <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Who is Eligible for Temporary Protection?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Temporary protection is granted to: <\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>&#8211; Ukrainian citizens who resided in Ukraine as of February 24, 2022.  <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>&#8211; Stateless persons and third-country nationals who legally resided in Ukraine before February 24, 2022, with a valid permanent residence permit issued under Ukrainian law, and who cannot safely return to their country or region of origin.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>&#8211; Family members of individuals in the above categories. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On February 19, 2025, the Bulgarian government approved a one-year extension of temporary protection for displaced persons from Ukraine, effective from March 4, 2025.
