The BHC has launched a free ‘Take action’ card in connection with the Forsaken Children campaign. The card is part of the campaign to bring those responsible for 238 child deaths in state institutions to justice.
The card will also be available for electronic sending from Fame.bg until October 14 2010 (in Bulgarian, but everybody can send it by filling in their name).
Last week, the BHC announced the findings of the inspections in all institutions for children with mental disabilities across the country. 238 deaths were established between 2000 and 2010, at least three fourths of which – avoidable: 31 deaths occured as a result of hunger, 84 from neglect… Hundreds of children continue to suffer from undernourishment, violence, immobilization and overmedication with dangerous drugs.
The card is addressed to the Office of the Prosecutor General and bears the text «I support you in the investigation of all crimes in the institutions for children with disabilities in Bulgaria». The sender is required to fill in their name, attach a stamp and send it to the Prosecutor’s Office.
