You can nominate your “Human of the Year” by the 15th of November
Nominations for the 17th annual human rights awards “Human of the Year” are now being accepted until November 15th. Anyone can nominate citizens, volunteers, activists and organizations whose work in the past year has contributed to the affirmation of human rights, animal protection and nature conservation in Bulgaria. You can nominate by filling in the nomination form on the awards website or by mailing it to the following address: 7 Varbitsa Street, Sofia 1504, for BHC.
"Human of the Year" is an initiative that aims to promote and support organizations, people and causes with a significant and long-lasting contribution to human rights, animal protection and nature conservation in Bulgaria. It is organized by the Bulgarian Helsinki Committee (BHC). As in previous years, an independent jury will select the award winners.
This year the jury consists of the following members:

Monika Marinova - Representative of the winners of the 2023 "Human of the Year" Grand Prize.

Georgi Bogdanov – Executive Director of the National Network for Children
Teodora Krumova - Program Director of the Amalipe Center
Petko Petkov – Judge
Yulia Georgieva - Founder of the Center for Humane Policies and Manager of the Pink House
Hristo Panchev - Climate Activist, Coordinator of Greenpeace's "Green Recovery of Ukraine" initiative for Central and Eastern Europe.
The "Human of the Year" awards are given to the most deserving people and causes nominated during the campaign - those who set a precedent in the field of human rights, were a factor in social development during the year, changed our world for the better through their efforts. The award ceremony takes place on the eve of International Human Rights Day, December 10th.
In 2023, the "Human of the Year" Grand Prize was awarded to the protesters in support of Deborah Mihailova from Stara Zagora and the Будителките/Wake Up foundation. The awards are non-monetary. Their purpose is to give symbolic recognition and to encourage people and organizations that are active in the promotion of human rights, animal protection and nature conservation. The nomination eligibility criteria, as well as the award rules, can be found on the official website humanoftheyear.org.
The unique artwork of the 2024 campaign is by Jasen Zgurovski. As in previous years, a number of media outlets and organizations are supporting the efforts to popularize the campaign so that it can reach as many people as possible. Being nominated for the "Human of the Year" award is recognition in itself.
